Find a Trusted Massage Therapist

Trusted Professional Massage Organizations Have Listing of Members

Members of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) are the most trusted massage therapists in the United States. Currently in California all new massage therapists must be fully licensed – which includes a minimum classroom hours is 500, 250 hours of work in the field, in addition to passing the national certification test (MbLEX).

There are several ways to find the right massage therapist:

Ask Questions:
To ensure your massage therapy session will benefit your health and wellness needs ask these questions:
1.    Are you a member of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA)?
AMTA members commit to the AMTA Code of Ethics and must meet all state and/or local requirements to practice. AMTA professional members have demonstrated a level of skill and knowledge through education and are required to meet continuing education requirements.

2.    Are you licensed to practice massage in this state?
Forty-five states and Washington, D.C. regulate the massage therapy profession. Ask your massage therapist about their credentials to practice massage therapy according to the laws in your state or local community.

3.    Are you trained in any specific types of massage?
While some massage therapists use just one or two types of massage, many are trained in a variety of techniques. Talk to your massage therapist about your health and why you are seeking massage therapy. This dialogue will help the massage therapist choose the best approach to achieve the goals of your massage.

Review local businesses and see what other clients are say about their experience - ensure your massage therapist can provide cost effective services, in a way that will enhance your experience.

Call the businesses and talk to someone in the office, and explain what you are looking for - ensure your massage therapist can provide the services, and satisfy your understanding of their ethics and philosophy.
