Postural Assessment - 1

The essence of Structural Integration is the dynamic tonal balance between the surface of the body, the body’s core and gravitational pull. Postural assessment is the first pillar of a yoga therapy examination and begins from the base(s) of support (BOS) in all standard postures (sitting, standing, gait, supine, and prone) and is considered to be foundation rather than complementary.

Static postural analysis is the synthesis of the body structure and systems seek to balance the ‘tone’ of muscles, posture and energy balance with emotional balance at any given time. In normal posture gravity acts in a balanced line along the curves of the spine. And if the human movement is balanced without compensation, so instead of the body fighting gravity, one can use gravity as an energy source.

Ideal Posture:

  • Muscles are balanced

  • Pelvis is Neutral

  • Top of the Pelvis is directly over the lower edge (no tilt)

  • Earlobes are directly over the shoulder

  • Natural Curve of the spine produces the least stressful posture (standing, sitting and walking)

  • Client also report feeling physically uplifted. This lift is due to the client’s new relationship to gravity. Once that lift has been felt, no other state will do.

Clients can report feeling physically uplifted, due to the new relationship with gravity after sessions in deep tissue, rolfing or Stretching. The results are long lasting, injury, illness or misuse can reduce the effects.

Tune-up sessions, either after stressful events or at 6- to 24-month intervals as preventive maintenance, maintain that graceful and balance with gravitational forces.

Movement Techniques - 2

“Movement techniques” are a way of learning how you can get rid of harmful tension in your body." Although certainly not a full definition of 'fixing postural issues,’ this is a good start.*
